Our challenging and rewarding program will introduce participants to the realities of live aboard yacht sailing while developing the skills and knowledge required to qualify for globally recognized sailing certificates from SailQuest and International Yacht Training (IYT).

This fast-paced, well organized, fun & effective "Learn to Sail" program combines essential multi-media classroom presentations, sailing skills demonstrations and hands-on live-aboard sailing experience under the guidance of IYT qualified sailing instructors to promote team building activities and personal responsibly.

During the course we cover a vast amount of sailing information, skills and technique. We will sail and cruise through our amazing Gulf of Thailand training area aboard our well equipped sailing school training yachts. From the SailQuest Sailing School base at Ocean Marina, Pattaya, Thailand, we will be cruising to remote tropical islands & busy shipping ports. We will cover sailing & sail handling, yacht safety, docking & anchoring, on board mechanical, electric & plumbing systems, the "Rules of the Road", navigation & passage planning and much, much more. Participants will definitely learn a LOT in this class and have a great time along the way.

SailQuest Sailing School is a partner school with International Yacht Training (IYT) and will issue internationally recognized certificates on their behalf to qualified sailors. Students who complete the Youth Program - IYT CREW course will receive the IYT International Crew certificate. Students who complete the Youth Program - IYT SKIPPER course will receive the IYT International Bareboat Skipper's and IYT VHF Radio Operator's certificates.

This certificate is included in the Youth Program - IYT CREW course. This five day entry level "Learn to Sail" course is the place to get started with the SailQuest Youth Sailing Program. The SailQuest IYT Crew certificate is a certificate of excellence for those candidates who wish to train to become an active crew member on a power or sailing yacht.

Certificate Limitations
Crew on a vessel up to a maximum length of 78 ft /24 meters
in coastal waters up to 20 miles offshore
in daylight hours and in fair conditions with moderate wind and sea conditions
It is the level of competence that someone needs either when acting as watch keeping crew on a yacht and as a skipper of a small yacht in protected waters where help is immediately available in calm conditions.

SailQuest IYT International Bareboat Skipper Course

 

This certificate is included in the Youth Program - IYT SKIPPER course. This advanced five day sailing course is not for beginners and the entry level requirement is the SailQuest IYT CREW certificate. The SailQuest IYT Bareboat Skipper's certificate is a certificate of excellence for those candidates who wish to take command of a yacht and be qualified to charter, operate and own a yacht in locations around the world.

Those who have obtained the International Bareboat Skipper qualification, can automatically obtain the “International Certificate of Competency” (ICC), provided the student meets the requirements as laid down by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (Resolution 40). This certificate is included in the Youth Program - IYT SKIPPER course. The IYT Marine Communications course (Very High Frequency – Short Range Certificate) is recognized by the Republic of the Marshall Islands and accepted by the MCA. This certificate is required and accepted in many parts of the world when operating and/or chartering a yacht. It is designed to ensure a thorough understanding of maritime radio communication at sea. It is intended for all marine environments and follows International standards.The course provides VHF Radio and SRC training for the entire spectrum of VHF radio communications for recreational and professional boating. Students will learn how on board radios and handheld radios, EPIRBs, SARTs, AIS and DSC-enabled radios, are used effectively in marine communications.

Transportation, Meals & Accommodation
The SailQuest Youth Sailing Program is an inclusive course where all logistical details and services are included in the course cost. All participants will need to do is to schedule and book course dates and air travel or arrange another group meeting point within Thailand and SailQuest will take it from there. See details below.

Transportation to & from the SailQuest Sailing School base
Once you have confirmed your course dates and booked flights to Thailand, or arranged another pick up point for your group anywhere within a 3 hour drive from our location, provide details and the SailQuest V.I.P. mini-van service will be standing by to deliver your group to our world-class Ocean Marina base just minutes south of Thailand's largest tourist destination in Pattaya, Thailand.

It is preferred to plan arrival times at the pick-up point between 10:00am and 4:00pm on the day before the first class day. On arrival students attend an orientation briefing, get set up in the onshore accommodation and attend the "Welcome Aboard Dinner Party".

Return SailQuest V.I.P. mini-van service is also included in the course cost, scheduled for the morning following the last class day.

Included Meals, Food & Beverages
From the first "Welcome Aboard Dinner Party" on the evening before the first class day to breakfast on the morning following the last class day, all meals and beverages, both ashore and on board the training yachts, are included in the course cost.

While onshore in Ocean Marina, the well-managed and conveniently located "Lake House Restaurant" provides a set menu for breakfast and lunch including Thai and Western food options. Evening meals hosted by the "Lake House Restaurant" are Thai-Style buffet dinner party events attended by students, instructors and sailing school staff and also include sailing lessons, course review and sailing song fun. The "Lake House Restaurant" also provides free internet WiFi service.

All meals are also included aboard the training yachts during the live-aboard portions of the course. Breakfasts include cereals, rice soup, fresh fruit and juice. Lunches are ramen soup, fresh fruit and snacks. Wholesome and hearty dinners are prepared aboard including pasta dishes and Thai curries.

On the last night of the live-aboard voyage students, instructors and sailing school staff go ashore to a beachfront Thai seafood restaurant. This unforgettable dining experience is always a highlight of the sailing program!

An unlimited amount of bottled drinking water is provided in the accommodation and aboard the training yachts.

Students may also bring along any additional food, snacks or beverages. Any special dietary requirements should be reported to SailQuest when booking your course dates.

Included Accommodation
From the evening before the first class day to the morning following the last class day accommodation is included in the course cost.

SailQuest Bungalow/Campsite: SailQuest Sailing School manages a 2 bed room 1 bathroom bungalow and campsite on the Ocean Marina property, fully equipped with air-con, refrigerator, toilet facilities, and all necessary supplies. Powered and fan-cooled 2-4 person camping tents are set up on the lakeside just outside the bungalow for larger groups. This is ideal accommodation for youth groups, convenient to the restaurant, mini-mart, SailQuest class room and training yacht, all located on the Ocean Marina property.

SailQuest Guesthouse & Student Lounge: Just across the (busy) road from the Ocean Marina property, SailQuest Sailing School also operates a 4 bedroom guesthouse facility. This facility sleeps up to 16 people in both fan and air-con rooms. Each 2 rooms share a bathroom. The guesthouse includes a student lounge and private bar, WiFi and entertainment center. This option can be reserved for older groups, or if the bungalow/campsite is not your preferred option.

Upgraded Accommodation Options
In some cases, groups may wish to upgrade from the basic included SailQuest accomodation. There are many excellent accommodation options located within easy walking distance of the SailQuest Sailing School/Ocean Marina location. SailQuest will reduce the course cost by 2,000THB for the 5 day course or 4,000THB for the 10 day course per person when you provide your own accommodation.

The SailQuest Youth Sailing Program is a 2 stage program. The first stage, the IYT CREW course, is a 5 day entry level sailing course and covers the IYT International Crew course syllabus. The second stage, the IYT SKIPPER course, is a 5 day advanced sailing course and covers the IYT Bareboat Skipper's course syllabus. The IYT CREW course must be completed before attending the IYT SKIPPER course. The 5 day courses can be scheduled individually or can be combined and completed in a 10 day course.

International Schools, youth and business organizations, families, and others and can enroll groups of 6 to 14 students. Recommended student age is 15 years old and up.

International Schools and other youth organizations with students under 18 years old should be accompanied by at least 1 adult representative to supervise students when sailing classes are not in session. Adult representatives, teachers or school counselors, will attend the sailing program alongside students and receive IYT CREW/SKIPPER certificates.
